First Saturday of the Season
Freeland entertained Yarnton at home in what was there first Saturday game of the season.
The home side started well and were again in front before the quarter hour mark.
A great ball in from recruit Eddie Parker
was finished at the back post by Jason I’m the better brother Lonsdale giving the home side a deserved lead.
Freeland were pushing for a second and this did arrive when Liam Harris
scored for the second game in a row with another right foot shot from distance.
The reds had given a decent account of themselves in the first half and the management were happy going into half time.
Freeland were now playing with added confidence playing out from the back and both wide men were seeing lots of the ball.
It was one of them that got on the score sheet next. New recruit Guy Parker. Sorry Guy Swain
that unleashed a left foot rocket across the keeper high into the net to put the home side three up after 60Mins.
The reds were rampant and were looking like they were going to score with every attack.
There was still time in the game for Substitute and veteran Lee Keyes to add a fourth. He might have started the game however had to be convinced that he wouldn’t be allowed to play in his trademark three quarter length trousers.
Another great ball in from Swain, Keyes just managing to get the Zimmer frame in the way to glance home high into the roof of the net.
Very lucky not to get booked as he tried and ultimately failed in trying to get his shirt over his head.
Bad posture and weighty frame were key factors to why he didn’t nail the celebration.
After all this excitement Yarnton did manage to get on the scoresheet. It came from a corner and it was a fantastic header by the centre half that beat the hapless Schmeichel in the home sides goal.
Final score Reds four Yarnton one. I do love Saturdays. See you next week Charlgrove at home.
