Cropredy 2nd Senior Cup
Out Of Jail Card
Freeland entertained Cropredy for the second time in two weeks.
This time they played together in the senior cup.
The home side made a few changes and decided to stick with their 3-5-2 formation which has served them so well of the last few weeks.
This said again the Reds started terribly slowly and it was only the away side that looked like they fancied a game of football in the early stages.
Even though Cropredy didn’t really hurt the home side with chance after chance they were seeing a lot of the ball.
Freeland were now becoming very sloppy give the ball away in crucial areas and when the chances did come for them they were very wasteful in front of goal.
Midway through the first half the away side scored a fantastic goal. (Gascoigne esque from Euro 96 against Scotland) Only Macca will remember that one.
So, 0-1 and a very disappointed Freeland come in for Halftime.
Longford and McNamara try and rally the troops and get the home side going again.
The second half starts and unfortunately, we still don’t look at the races. The second goal did come for the away side from a free kick that somehow went under the wall leaving Lonsdale rooted to the spot.
Freeland are now in big big trouble and Taylor is brought on to try and inject some life into the lacklustre Reds. This he did immediately with a great run down the left-hand side.
Soon afterwards Longford decides to bring Keyes on to try and help Taylor and McCudden break the deadlock. This did happen however from a very unlikely source Simon Tony Adams Calley making his way up for a Free kick in Cropredys final third.
A great ball in from McCudden is headed in at the back post by the defender. 1-2 and the game is on.
It’s taken 65mins for the home side to realise they are in a football and more importantly that they could win this if they can get out of second gear.
Freeland were now starting to cause all sorts of problems for the away side with the three-up front getting lots more of the ball and the pressure would surely tell at some point.
This it did after another fantastic ball in from McCudden caused havoc in the away defence again.
At least three of the Reds players being bundled to the ground at the back stick.
Keyes steps up for the Penalty and the game is all square at 2-2.
There is only going to be won winner and let’s hope it’s in normal time as its already looking like it’s going to get dark soon.
This is maybe an excuse the Cropredy Keeper can use for Freeland s third. Another ball in from McCudden finds Keyes with his back to goal 6 yards out. Only he knows what he is going to do with the ball. A cheeky back heal that finds the bottom corner and the Reds are in the 3-rd. round of the senior for the first time in four years. Headington Amateurs in the next round away 17th December.
Started slowly finished well. How about starting well this week in the Charity cup against Marston.
One things for sure the game will be gone if we don’t.
Another Win happy days already looking forward to Saturday.
