One sided affair ends goalless!
Charlton defend for their lives.
Freeland went into this fixture having not played since the dramatic penalty shootout victory against Headington amateurs QA couple of weeks ago, yet again unavailability was an issue throughout the week, and caused the management all sorts of issues!!
Freeland started the game on the front foot with a host of chances, the best of which fell to Tom McCudden who saw his shot saved by the charlton keeper from point blank range, Adam Bowerman also went close a with a header from a Tom Parker corner.
Charlton we’re defending for their lives the whole of the first half and could count themselves very lucky to come in at Halftime 0/0
The second half continued in the same fashion as the first, Charlton camped in their own half defending, with the goalie having a bit of a worldly game!
The hosts however did have a rare counter attack with freeland lost the ball in the Charlton final third, however the striker, much to his disagreement, was about 500 yards offside when he received the ball so that amounted to nothing.
A Change of shape was needed to try and break down the Charlton defence, freeland went to a 433 formation, this worked straight away when Tom mccuden was put through on goal, he rounded the keeper, but the keeper decided to change sports and rugby tackle him to the ground, a stone wall penalty everyone thought on both sides.............nothing from the ref, freeland protests were waved away, the only explanation could’ve been that the ref was unsighted to the incident.....somehow!,
The game was drifting away from Freeeland and a draw was the likely outcome when in the 88th minute the games real talking point, from an Eddie Parker throw in Tom McCudden took on two charlton defenders and took a shot off, the ball cannoned onto the post, Danny Taylor fired home the rebound into an empty net, the players were making their way back to the halfway line for the restart when all of a sudden the linesman’s flag was raised, to freelande everyones Bemusement the linesman had told the ref that the throwin was taken in the wrong place, it should’ve been 1 yard closer to the Charlton goal......the ref sided with the linesman and ruled the goal out!,
Disgraceful decision really and really poor from the ref!
The game ended 0/0 defo 2 points dropped, but on the other hand could be a good point come the end of the season.
Roll on cropredy at home next week!
