Freeland Res V Adderbury Park Res

Freeland’s last game ended in defeat to a promotion pushing (moaning and bitter) Adderbury side. In a late kick off Freeland were confident of getting a result against a team who they were unbeaten against and had scored 6 against in the reverse fixture.

The first half saw the away side play arguably some of their best football of the season, the speciality Freeland long ball was once again in action and of course the home side played flowing football and were all world beaters.

Freeland’s midfield controlled the game, Gilkes playing in an unfamiliar centre midfield role was the creative force for the away side. Target man Glastonbury was showing form that could earn him a call up to the Welsh summer training camp. The burly striker nearly opened the scoring when a cross found him at the far post, but his header could only find its way into the keepers arms.

Ashley Blackwell was impressing his watching parents with another superb performance in centre midfield.

At the back, veteran Woodbridge was not affected by the will he, wont he rumours over his potential retirement, he lead from the front commanding the back line and keeping the strikers at bay. For all the possession and chances Freeland could not get that elusive goal before the break.

The second half saw the home side come out fighting and put up more of a fight. Freeland were getting frustrated that there good play and possession .

The home side probably shaded the second half, and what looked like was going to be a goalless draw, the home side shocked Freeland when Junior Howards beat 2 defenders and fired into the top corner.

It was harsh on Freeland who deserved at least a point from the game, but they can take positives from the game knowing the football they played was some of the best in the season, and bar the mid season blip they could well of been looking at back to back league titles.

The team  can look forward to next season knowing that they have an excellent platform to build on with an established squad and youngsters coming through they should be more than capable of challenging at the top of whatever league they are in.
