Freeland v Yarnton

A Freeland side with a number of changes due to injuries and suspensions welcomed Yarnton to the Si Hole memorial Ground.

Missing Club carthorse Si Hole due to suspension was seen by many of the home supporters as a blessing in disguise. Richard Trigg was also named on the bench making his much anticipated return from a back injury.

The home side competed well in a tight game with both sides having few chances at goal. The game was scrappy and the visitors were doing there best to get men behind the ball and quickly break down any Freeland attacks.

Mid way through the first half, Freeland goal machine and chief rudeboy, Paul Salter scrambled the ball into the back of the net after some good play by Freeland’s Adam Reynolds.

The second half started with Freeland playing the more positive football but we were unable to capitalise due to some poor finishing and good defending by Yarnton.

The home side were getting frustrated at one nil with the visitors still in it, despite Freeland’s numerous chances they could not get that valuable second goal.

Any threat was admirably dealt with by defensive duo Pete Higgins and Simon Calley. The game was finally sealed on 70mins when some good work from Matty Wood saw pint sized pest Danny Taylor get on to the end of his cross to head home.

A good professional performance from the home side which now seems them start a marathon month with 11 games still to play.
