Freelands home fixture was switched to Bletchingdon due to Freeland being waterlogged, with Bletchingdon looking for revenge after being beaten 2 weeks earlier.
Bitter Bletch would have been pleased to see Freeland did not have “many First teamers” in again. They did boast the return of Andy “Hollywood” James, and gave a debut to YTS Trainee Ethan Simlett.
The first half was short of chances as Freelands many first teamers comfortably held Bletch at bay. Freeland had the best chance of the opening half hour when Scroggs good work on the right saw him cross to Belcher, only for his touch to get blocked by the terminator.
Bletch had appeals for a penalty when Clown keeper Leach appeared to jump on the centre forwards back when fisting a cross away.
Freelands centre backs Salkeld and Woodbridge were keeping the moaning forwards pretty much in their pockets. The first half seemed destined to finish goalless, but Bletch managed to break the deadlock after some good work on the right wing, striker East scored from 6 yards.
The second half saw Freeland come out a more galvinised unit, and the workrate was upped, they began to create chances, and soon equalised when Langford was fouled in the box the ref pointed to the spot.Skipper James stepped up and coolly slotted home the penalty.
Freeland then sensed the 3 points were there for the taking, and started pushing. Substitute Hardy brought his usual industrious work rate to the game, and really mixed it up with tackles flying in and a Ronaldo esque stepover and jig.
Youth teamer Simlett was than brought on for his senior league debut and within minutes found the back of the net, when the Bletch keeper scuffed his clearance straight to the youngster and he made no mistake from close range.
Almost immediately Bletch broke forward and walked through the middle and Whites cross was sliced by centre back Woodbridge past a static Leach to make it two all.
Bletch then had some urgency about them trying to push for the winner realising they couldn’t afford to drop points against Freeland again. They ran out of time and had to settle for a point, and Freeland will be pleased with the performance as they go into the Semi final against Garsington next week. And Bletch having already used the 1st teamers excuse decided this week to blame the ref!!
