After the mid week victory over local rivals Eynsham reserves, Freeland welcomed Kidlington Old Boys to the Si Hole memorial ground. Freeland made a couple of changes from that night with the influential Gary Brooks failing a late fitness test and Si hole slotting in a right back.
Freeland raced out of the blocks and stamped their authority on the game, Hodges and Higgins were dominating the centre of the park, and it was no surprise when Freeland took an early lead. It was striker Salter who put them ahead firing home is 14th of the season. Minutes later they found themselves two goals up, when after some superb football which included at least 6 different players, a pin point cross found Adam Reynolds at the far post who calmly headed home.
The first 20 minutes saw Kidlington chasing shadows and hardly having a touch of the ball, and Freeland were playing some of their best football of the season. The home sides third goal came from an unlikely source, captain Hole shocked the watching capacity crowd by showing he can on occasions kick the ball in a straight line, when he unleashed an unstoppable 25 yard half volley which flew like an exorcet to the top corner.
Freeland cruised to half time, with Kidlington’s sparse attacks easily dealt with by the outstanding Calley and Hambridge.
Kidlington did start the second half a bit more positively and soon won a penalty when Simon Calleys was adjudged to have brought down the winger in the box. Keeper Perkin was beaten from the resulting spot kick.
Freeland them upped their game to try and put the game out of the reach, Wood and Reynolds were combining well down the left and Taylor was showing some great link up play. It was winger Crocker who grabbed the 4th with another belter, hitting a volley from an almost impossible angle which flew into the top corner.
Hole then grabbed his second and Freeland’s 5th when he rose unchallenged to head home Crocker’s cross. Hole then went in search of a hat-trick and with Kidlington posing no threat started to play as a third striker. He came agonisingly close to the sort after hat trick when he hit another 25 yard effort that beat the keeper but hit the bar.
Freeland caped off a fantastic performance when midfield maestro Higgins ran through and bravely slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper, to give Freeland a convincing 3 points which with the upcoming fixture pile up will give them confidence of a to p4 finish.
