Freeland overcame a spirited OUP res side in the quarter final of the Clarendon Cup. In front of a capacity crowd which included a minibus full of first teamers, Freeland set about making use of the great surface of OUP.
The away side looked dangerous with the pacy pest, Danny Taylor, partnering Welshman Glastonbury upfront. They were looking dangerous with Symonds and James combining well down the right. In the centre of the park Langford and international playboy Blackwell were dominating in the every department.
For all the possession and chances Freeland could not break the deadlock, with Taylor, Glastonbury and Calley all having good chances to break the deadlock. Finally Glastonbury’s good work on the right of the box, lead to him being brought down. The resulting penalty was comfortably slotted away by Andy James.
Freeland kept up the pressure from the start of the second half and almost immediately Pacy Pest Danny Taylor grabbed himself a goal after some good work by the frantic Joe Wick.
In an identical fashion to the first Goal Freeland were awarded another penalty and Andy James once again stepped up and slotted the ball home low to the keepers right.
Almost immediately the ref completed his hat-trick of penalty awards when from a corner Langford was adjudged to have pushed an attacker. From the penalty spot the kick was slotted him for a consolation without keeper Leach even diving.
Possibly the shortest appearance of the season was then put in by Warren Vandenburgh who a mere 90 seconds after coming on fell in a heap with a twisted knee and had to come off. Just after this James had a great chance to bag a hat trick with a 20 yard effort which he hit straight at the keeper.
Freeland managed to get another two goals with Taylor bagging a header and the OUP defence making a hash of defending and putting the ball in to their own net.
Freeland now progress to the semi final hoping to go one further than they did last year and reach the final of the cup, and with performances like this should have every chance Freeland now progress to the semi final hoping to go one further than they did last year and reach the final of the cup, and with performances like this should have every chance.
