Freeland Res v Long Crendon

Freeland returned to the Si Hole Memorial Ground for the first time this year, when they entertained Long Crendon.

Freeland were boosted by the Return of Andy “Hollywood” James and defender Neil Howe, on the return from injury.

After last weeks defeat to Marston Freeland needed a win to give a kick start to their season. They started with purpose and fight, really taking the game to Crendon and looking threatening up front, with the new partnership of Glastonbury and James complementing each other well.

It took little time for Freeland to take the lead when Freeland won a free kick 25 yards out, and striker Glastonbury quick free kick caught the keeper still lining up his wall and his perfectly directed free kick found the bottom corner.

In the middle of the park international playboy Ash Blackwell was in a huge battle with Crendon centre midfielder and both picked up yellow cards for late tackles in the heat of the battle.

Despite Freeland’s dominance Crendon were still seeing a fair bit of the ball and were pushing forwards, but without causing any real problems for the experienced Freeland defence.

Freeland deservedly went two goals up when in almost identical fashion, new set piece specialist Glastonbury hit another quick free kick and with the help of a comedy dive by the keeper the ball found its way into the net.

The home side made it 3 when from a corner defender Calleys header was saved and the resulting bundle winger Scroggs managed to bundle the ball over the line.

The start of the second half saw Freeland have most of the possession and some good attacking moves, playing with confidence, even keeper Leach was now starting to come and call and command his box, but an hour in a Crendon Attacker lunged in at defender Howe and the defender got up and pushed him away, the ref booked the attacker and harshly sent off Howe.

This lead to Crendon pushing forward with their extra man searching for a goal and would be an unlikely point. They did manage to pull a goal back when some poor defending led to Walker beating Leach from close range.

Almost immediately Freeland went to the other end and Scroggs dubiously claimed his second, which to the crowds looked like an own goal. In the dying minutes Glastonbury could and should of bagged a hat trick but squandered a couple of glorious chances, and was duly fined for hat  trick avoidance.

The win sets Freeland up nicely as they go into to next weeks cup quarter final at OUP, and hopefully will kick start the league campaign.
