After making a few changes to the team that won 4-0 last week, Freeland made the trip to Kidlington Old Boys – a game that was re arranged as the Semi final of the Intermediate Cup was changed to next weekend.
Freeland were slow getting out of the blocks and we were not able to pass the ball and we were getting caught in possession – not a good start!
After 30 minutes of poor play, one piece of quality resulted from a well taken corner from Garry Brooks that was headed into the goal by Richard Trigg, who leapt like the proverbial Salmon, that was his 11th of the season from midfield.
This should have calmed things but Freeland still played poorly and a mistake from Club Carthorse Hole, and poor defending led to an equaliser when Dan Jones of Kidlington Old Boys almost walked the ball into the net with no one taking responsibility throughout the team.
This meant the score was level at half time and Kidlington still, rightly felt they were in with a shout of something from the game.
The Gaffer was not a happy man and gave a half time talk that Fergie would have been proud of – the paint on the changing room walls blistering in the heat!
Everyone agreed that it had not been a good performance and we started the second half in a much more positive mood and played the ball to feet and used the width of the pitch.
Kidlington Old Boys were surprised with the upped tempo and could not cope with Freeland playing their usual passing game.
After 10 minutes of the second half Freeland got their second goal through some good finishing from Paul Salter who slid home a left foot drive through the keepers legs.
We were now in the driving seat and playing a lot better. On 70 minutes Jamie Hodges finished off a good Freeland move hammering the ball to the keepers left.
Richard Trigg was still in goal scoring mode and after covering every blade of grass on the pitch, he still had the tenacity to go on a solo run, passing defenders and rounding the keeper for a good individual goal.
After the game, in the press conference, the Gaffer stated that it was a better second half, but we will need to be a complete footballing side for our Semi final next week away to Henley!
