Freeland v Slade Farm

A strong Freeland Team welcomed Slade Farm United to the Si Hole memorial Ground, a team they had never beaten since being in the Senior League.

Both sides started well but Freeland always had more composure and played the passing game. After a bright start it took Freeland  25 minutes for Danny Taylor to finish off a good move, rounding the keeper and scoring his first goal since returning from Australia.

Slade hardly had a touch of the ball, and 5 minutes later they found themselves 2 down when Jamie Hodges superb pass found Joe Crocker who finished easily.

The home side continued to pile on the pressure, with Slade chasing shadows for most of the half and hardly getting out of their half. The midfield of Hodges and Brooks were pulling all the strings, caving Slade open with their precision passing.

The second half continued as the first had left off, with Freeland piling on the pressure and Slade having only a couple of speculative efforts, which Keeper Perkin was never troubled by.

Taylor and Salter were causing the Slade back line numerous problems and Salter got the goal his performance deserved when he latched onto the end of a good move and finished low to the keepers right.

Salter was then brought off to give him a rest for next weeks game, and Ben Sadler  One half of Hollywood couple “Rivvo” was brought on in his place, but the fans favourite soon hobbled off after twisting his knee. The gaffer Longford brought himself on in an inspired move and with his first touch volleyed home and perfect cross from veteran Pete Higgins.
