Freeland travelled to a wet and blustery Long Crendon, looking for their first win away from the Magic Kingdom of the Si Hole memorial ground. Freeland were boosted by the return of Matty Wood, Joe Wick, Ben Symonds and the enigmatic Stu Hole.
Freeland were full of energy boosted by the magic sparkling water they had pre-match, and were coping with the hurricane like conditions admirably. Webb on the right wing was causing the full back lots of problems and the front men Hole and Miller looked potent in front of goal.
It was Hole who gave Freeland a deserved lead when Blackwell was put through thanks to an inch perfect pass from defender Woodbridge and was brought down inside the box and the striker stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick.
Freeland were soon two goals to the good when winger Scroggs hit a brilliant solo effort, picking his spot and curling it around the keeper from 20 yards. The home side were easily being contained by the Freeland back four and rarely threatened, and it was Hole again who grabbed his second and Freeland’s third of the half, when he was put through and made no mistake when one on one with the keeper.
The second half saw Crendon push for goals to get them back into the game, but Freeland soaked up the pressure and keeper J’Mie Leach was mainly a spectator. Hole completed his hat-trick within ten minutes of the re-start when he fired past the keeper from just in side the box.
With the points safe Freeland were content to run down the clock and it was midfielder Calley who scored their 5th, when after a scramble in the box he managed to bundle the ball home. They nearly scored a 6th when substitute Sam Symonds was put through on goal and ran the ball from the half way line and just as the defenders were closing in hit his shot just wide of the post.
After a few poor performances in recent weeks Freeland showed how they could play and will need to iron out the inconsistent performances if they are to challenge at the top come May.
