Freeland v Broughton

Freeland travelled to Broughton, a ground where they had won last season to cement their promotion, despite assistant manager Stu fathers still, 4 months on, thinking the game was drawn.

In a game that started brightly for both sides it was Freeland who took an early advantage.  Club leading scorer Paul “I Score Goals” Salter latched onto to an intelligent reverse pass from Scally Hodges, and his left footed shoot sailed past the Right Said Fred lead singer, Richard Fairbrass lookalike Broughton keeper.

Broughton pushed hard for an equaliser but found the Freeland back line in great form, with Woodbridge and the portly Hole in fine form. With the home side not looking threatening from open play they relied on set pieces and eventually drew level when Hopcroft powered a header past naturist Perkin.

Freeland’s very own Big Time playboy Pete Higgins also had a goal disallowed when a linesman’s flag wrongly ruled out his strike.

After a typical rigorous half time team talk from the gaffer Freeland came out with added purpose and as they started the first half they quickly got a goal. It was £15 million summer signing from local rivals Jamie Hodges who hit an unstoppable volley from the edge of the box.

As the game went on, Club Carthorse Si Hole was once again questioned by the opposition strikers about his bulky frame. Meanwhile at the other end another summer signing, Adam Reynolds Signed on a Bosman from Garsington scored a goal that was worthy of winning any game, when he had an immense strike from 30 yards that rocketed into the back of the Broughton net.

Gaffer Matty Longford was ecstatic with his sides performance and in his press conference, said “Not many teams will come here and get a result like that, and it sets us up nicely for our presidents cup tie next week”.
