Freeland v Garsington Reserves

Last Seasons Division 1 team to beat, Garsington Res were the visitors to the Si Hole memorial ground. The visitors much changed form last season.

Freeland made a number of changes from last weeks draw, with Club carthorse Si Hole, Neil Maskell, and Ash Blackwell all coming into the starting line up.Also returning was gaffer Matty Longford who returned from a relaxing break in Ibiza.

Freeland started strongly and it was all one way traffic, with Trigg pulling all the strings from the centre of the park. Striker Salter was causing the Garsington defence problems with his pacy runs. It was no surprise when Freeland opened the scoring through the instrumental Trigg.

Garsingtons only real outlet was a long ball, which sweeper Howe and Woodbridge were dealing with admirably. They tried to rough up keeper Perkin by clattering into him a couple of times when he came to claim their long hoofs

Freeland went close through Salter, Palmer and Crocker. They soon doubled their lead when striker Salter grabbed what will surely be the first of many for the season, putting the ball past the keeper at the second attempt.

Soon after Freeland made it 3 when, Midfielder Trigg hit a speculative shot from 25 yards and despite just about being on target took a big deflection which sent it sailing past  the Garsington keeper.

After half time Freeland continued their sustained pressure and it was centre back Woodbridge who got on the scoresheet. The crafty Cockney leapt to meet a corner and sent his header back across the keeper. A matter of minutes later a carbon copy when Woodbridge once again rose to put home from a corner.

It was left to Salter to complete the scoring when he scored his second and then completing his hat trick when through one on one he hit the post and tapped in the simple rebound. It capped  very good performance from the Freeland side, which hopefully now will kick start their season
